Natural Law and Free Society by Dr. Samuel Gregg

            Dr. Samuel Gregg, an esteemed professor and writer, gave a lecture at Faulkner University regarding Natural Law. It was through provoking and informative. I did not understand the concept of Natural Law in the sense that it is human’s ability to make interpretations about the world through objective moral reasoning. We can reason because God has given every person the ability to logically think through things to come to conclusions that are moral. We have the ability to conclude what things are good and what things are evil in the world. He stated that, “Good is to be done and evil is to be avoided.” 

            The point of Natural Law is to promote human flourishing. It’s not about gaining wealth or fame, but about doing good and avoiding evil actions. We have the choice to choose, and natural law is in the world to aid humanity in doing good and avoiding evil. However, no one can force another individual to integrate this concept into their life. The concept itself eventually becomes integrated into a person’s identity as they abstain from wrong acts. So, Natural Law is in the world to direct people to live lives and make choices that promote them and others to flourish through reason.
